In conjunction with the current exhibition at Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park, Essence: The Horses of Deborah Butterfield, Professor Craig Hanson will give a lecture on The Horse in Art this Friday, March 2, at noon at the Meijer Gardens. The lecture is included in admission.

The horse symbolizes humankind’s mastery of the landscape and its romantic yearnings for untamed open spaces. Dr. Hanson highlights Butterfield’s work and considers other famous horses in the history of art.
