Call for Artists

In case you haven’t heard yet, the Visual Arts Guild’s very first off-campus show is quickly approaching! The show, titled Spreading Roots, is taking place on April 13 as a part of Avenue for the Arts’ all-night studio hop Art.Downtown (http://avenueforthearts.com/blog/april-13th-art-downtown/). The show is located at 250 Grandville in one of the Free Radical Galleries.

Here is a collective artist statement concerning the Visual Arts Guild show:
“In an attempt to explore the relationship between community and creative space, this show functions as a type of “coming out” for the arts community of Calvin College, by positioning ourselves within the greater context of Grand Rapids. By moving spatially away from campus, we both expose ourselves to and engage in dialogue with our city. As an entirely student produced show, Spreading Roots testifies to the essential inclusion of Calvin in this conversation with Grand Rapids. Doing so, we hope to both spread and deepen our roots.”
The deadline for submissions is TUESDAY MARCH 27 after Spring Break. Don’t delay! Submit your treasures!
For the submission form, look outside the Sculpture Studio (SC 106) OR contact Jenny Swim (jes42@students.calvin.edu)or Kerry Aarnoutse (kerry.ea@gmail.com). Additionally, this show is in dire need of volunteers! If you’d like to volunteer to help jury, set up, tear down, plan, or generally be involved with this very exciting show, contact Patrick Hekman (pch4@students.calvin.edu).
At very (very!) least, come support Calvin artists and community; swing by the gallery on April 13 for the reception.
Get involved. Work hard. Work together.
