The Spreading Roots Show is a group exhibition featuring the work of more than 40 Calvin students and two studio classes in the media of painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, video, ceramic, and performance. There are many great pieces and we are excited to exhibit such a large collection of original Calvin work.
Spreading Roots is a manifestation of the Visual Arts Guild’s priority to encourage the dialogue of Calvin students with our greater community, Grand Rapids. We are committed to re-understanding what it means to live and work creatively in community. The experience of planning an art exhibition, especially our participation in Art.Downtown, helped us connect not only with fellow artists, but others who work in the community. Additionally, this show expresses our belief that art-making is a serious discipline. We hope to accomplish, through this show, the development of professional skills, artistic skills, but above all to facilitate the conversation of Calvin students with Grand Rapids.
Please join us for the opening reception, occurring during Art.Downtown. We hope to see you there!
