This Week at the UICA

HURRY! The Urban Institute for Contemporary Arts downtown will be taking down their ArtPrize exhibition in one week. If you have yet to see the entries, or want to see your favourites one last time, now is your last chance. I recommend taking in a film while you’re there, the UICA has a gorgeous theatre, opening this Saturday is God Save My Shoes.

UICA’s ArtPrize exhibition, titled Somewhere Else (Sept. 19-Nov. 18), is inspired by the way ArtPrize annually transforms Grand Rapids into a festival of visual curiosities, the exhibition at UICA transports viewers unexpectedly to other worlds. The exhibition is comprised of 17 large-scale artworks created by over 25 artists from across the US, Iceland and Norway. In the spirit of UICA’s mission, this exhibition features contemporary artwork from today’s emerging artists that is artistically excellent, thought-provoking, and experimental. Artwork is located on all levels of UICA, with the 4th and 5th floors and outdoor terrace open to the public for the first time.
