On Friday, March 1 the Center Art Gallery will open “Windows to Heaven – Treasures from the Museum of Russian Icons” and “The Lotto Icons – E.B. Lewis.”

“Windows to Heaven” brings together over 25 historically significant Russian Icons dating from 1590 to the present. Included are icons of St. Nicholas and St. George, Old Testament scenes, pictorial themes centered on the life of Jesus and images of the Mother of God. On Friday, March 1 Henry Luttikhuizen (professor of art history) will give an introductory talk in the CFAC Recital Hall at 7pm, followed by a reception in the West Lobby and viewing of the exhibition. “The Lotto Icons” presents some of the latest work by artist and illustrator E.B. Lewis. This series of impoverished children painted, gilded and then revealed on the face of lottery tickets reference traditional icons and ask the viewer to consider their status.
