About the work:

In a culture inundated with endless subliminal imagery, women are confined to an established standard of beauty that is supported by mass media and pop culture. Through my body of work, I focus on this sense of confinement, revealing the bondages that restrain woman’s sense of individuality and freedom. However, while customary fashion choices that range from clothing to hairstyle restrict women, they also have a sense of magnetism and appeal to them. As a woman, I am simultaneously fascinated by these attractive objects and repulsed by my desire for them. As I address their coexisting charm and grotesqueness, I reveal the conflicted nature that exists within cultural norms of beauty.
