Join us for an insight into the art and life of artist Mary Ann Aitken with artist Ed Fraga and collector Burt Aaron. Explore the artwork in the exhibition and gain insights into her life.
Ed Fraga is a Detroit-based painter whose work explores the human condition. He was recently honored with an Adolph & Esther Gottlieb Fellowship as well as a Kresge Artist Fellowship. Ed has received grants and awards from the National Endowment for the Artsand the Rockefeller Foundation. His paintings are in the collections of the Detroit Institute of Arts, Cranbrook Art Museum, and The Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago. Ed received his BFA from Wayne State University in 1980.
Burt Aaron is a private collector of contemporary art. His collection includes abstract, realist, pop, conceptual and expressionistic painting, sculpture, works on paper and multi-media installation pieces. Much of the art he collects explores the unpredictable nature of our global culture. Some of the artists represented in his collection are well known; others in mid-career and many are emerging on the national and international art scene. Burt, who has been collecting for almost 20 years, is a founding trustee of the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit (MOCAD). He is a past trustee of Independent Curators International, and has been involved with the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago (MCA)and the Art Institute of Chicago.
