Art History | Collecting the World

Image

The January interim-abroad course “Collecting the World” explores the history of collecting and the history of London through a survey of some of the most important museums and sites of display in England. Along with looking at plenty of art objects, students are visiting a wide array of museums, including natural history collections and house museums. Day trips include Windsor, Oxford, and Bath. Exploring themes of display from medieval churches to the British Museum (founded in 1753), from Windsor Castle and the Tower of London to Tate Modern, the course pays particular attention to the global circulation of goods and the cosmopolitan character of London.
