106 Gallery and Art Prize

ArtPrize has officially begun. Please take time to engage this visual festival, which is up for the next 2-1/2 weeks in downtown Grand Rapids. Many local and international artists are participating, including a number
affiliated with Calvin College.

The Calvin College (106) Gallery is hosting “Reflexion,” an exhibition of nine ArtPrize artists that faithfully explore ways in which their art and process relate to reflexion ¬≠–a bending back. They invite contemplation, ruminate on memory and identity, investigate properties of light, utilize the return of lines, consider the incomplete and ambiguous, and fix viewers thoughts on legacy. The artists approach this through various forms of traditional and non-traditional painting, printmaking, sculpture and installation that open new ways for the viewer to engage in art.

The artists are: Kathryn Trumbull Fimreite, Kate Gesel, Jamey Grimes, Shannon Mossing, Jeff Haase and Andrea Myers, Gosia Podosek, Betsy Stirratt, Jo-Ann Van Reeuwyk and Marissa Voytenko

A reception will be held on
Friday, September 26 from 6-8pm and one of the artists will be hosting a
workshop on Sunday, September 28 from 1-3pm.
Both events are free and open to the public.
