Filled with Light

Celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the Department of Art and Art History at Calvin College
In 1964-65 Calvin College officially established an Art Department with its founding faculty member, Edgar Boeve. Although some art and art history courses had been taught previously in the Dutch department, Boeve’s courses were the first under the new department heading.
We have been celebrating the 50th anniversary of our founding throughout the past year with exhibitions, lectures and other events with the theme Filled With Light. “Filled with Light” expresses the illumination our creativity brings to the college community, and the capacity of the visual arts to enlighten the world (and maybe a little irony as well?). Our celebrations will culminate in special events during the weekend of October 2 and 3, 2015.  Below is a schedule of these celebration events with short descriptions of each. We hope you can join us and look forward to seeing you there. Please contact 50th Anniversary Committee Chair, Lisa VanArragon at with any questions.
