The Calvin College (106) Gallery is currently featuring two new exhibitions: The Marks We Make and Paper Tears, both open now through February 26.
Join (106) Gallery for The Marks We Make and Paper Tears exhibition opening receptions on Friday, February 5, from 6-9pm. This event is held in conjunction with Avenue for the Arts First Friday shop hop. Take the opportunity to meet the artists, enjoy their work, and soak in an art-filled night on S. Division Avenue, as numerous venues are open late for your art-viewing pleasure. Refreshments served. For other First Fridays venues, see here.
The Marks We Make is a collaborative show between artists Kate Garman, Megan Gurisko, and Monica Lloyd. The show seeks to explore linework, patterns, and the overlapping of color, seen both in individual works and amongst the interactions of pattern and form between works. In the search for values and hues outside of the norm of traditional neutrals, the vibrancy of lines, netting, and blocks of color come forth. The work transforms into the unexpected through many layers, resulting in a mix of familiar and unfamiliar imagery drawing from both nature and the manmade.
Paper Tears: Handmade Artists’ Books features work from the Calvin College “Folio Image Space Text & Time” January 2016 Interim class taught by Professor Anna Greidanus. This exhibition seeks to explore the content and structure of conventional and sculptural books. These handmade creations invite the viewer to engage and question conceptions of the traditional book.
